PRESS STATEMENTFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEIMMINENT MASS ACTION: CSYO DEMANDS IMMEDIATE SACK OF FERMA MD, WARNS OF NATIONWIDE PROTEST OVER COLLAPSED ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE

The Coalition of Southwest Youth Organizations (CSYO) expresses deep concern and total dissatisfaction with the current state of federal roads across the Southwest and Nigeria at large under the leadership of the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi. It is both alarming and unacceptable that despite budgetary allocations and repeated assurances, there is little or nothing tangible to show in terms of road rehabilitation and maintenance across critical federal road networks. Roads that are vital to economic activities, transportation, and national development have continued to deteriorate, thereby exposing Nigerians to hardship, accidents, and avoidable loss of lives. The CSYO notes with great disappointment that the current leadership of FERMA has failed to deliver on its core mandate. Under Engr. Agbasi, FERMA has not only underperformed but has also fallen short of public expectations, leaving Nigerians to question the agency’s relevance in its present state. As Nigeria approaches another electoral cycle, it is imperative to remind the government that infrastructural development—especially road rehabilitation—remains a cardinal campaign promise of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sadly, the present condition of federal roads paints a contrary picture, thereby undermining the credibility of the administration and eroding public trust. In light of the foregoing, the Coalition of Southwest Youth Organizations (CSYO) hereby calls on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to, as a matter of urgency, relieve Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi of his position as Managing Director of FERMA. Nigeria deserves a more competent, proactive, and result-driven leadership that can effectively drive the vision of renewed and sustainable road infrastructure across the country.Failure to act swiftly on this pressing matter will leave the Coalition with no other option than to mobilize its members and concerned Nigerians to peacefully take to the streets in a democratic expression to demand accountability and immediate leadership change at FERMA.We remain committed to advocating for good governance, infrastructural development, and the welfare of all Nigerians.Signed:Ariwajoye AribidesiFor: Coalition of Southwest Youth Organizations (CSYO)
